How to Log in with Username and Password if Windows Hello (PIN, Face, or Fingerprint) is Unavailable

Purpose: To guide users on how to log into their Windows 11 devices using their username and password when Windows Hello (PIN, face recognition, or fingerprint) is unavailable.

Steps to Log in with Username and Password:

  1. Start on the Login Screen:
When Windows Hello is unavailable or fails, you will automatically see the standard login screen. This screen typically shows options for PIN, Face, or Fingerprint login.

  2. Switch to the Password Option:

    • Below the Windows Hello login prompt, look for the "Sign-in options" link. This is usually located under the password/PIN input field.

    • Click "Sign-in options" to reveal all available login methods.

  3. Select the Password Icon:

    • From the sign-in options, click the icon that resembles a key (this represents the password login).

    • The screen will change to display the username and password fields.

  4. Enter Your Credentials:

    • Type in your username (if not already displayed) and your account password.

    • Press Enter or click Sign in to access your account.

  5. If the Password Option Is Not Visible:

    • Restart your computer to refresh the login interface.

    • Ensure your device is connected to the network, especially if you use a domain or Azure AD account.

Troubleshooting Tips:

  • Forgotten Password:
If you cannot remember your password, open a ticket requesting a password reset.

  • Account Lockout:
If you attempt an incorrect password multiple times, your account may lock. Wait at least 10 minutes and try again or contact the Support Center for assistance.
